Sarah closed the doors on Bronze Beauty Spray Tanning in February 2024.
BUT WE ARE STILL SPRAY TANNING IN PITTSBURGH! Sarah and the rest of the crew are now part of Tranquility WellSPA in Franklin Park. Tranquility just built a brand new building on Nicholson Road and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of their team.
We are still offering the same services, using the same solutions and products, and offering the best spray tan in Pittsburgh.

The principle tanning agent used in all self-tanning formulas is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient does not produce a “real tan” by increasing the skin’s melanin levels; rather it creates a tanned appearance by developing a brown color on the surface of the skin. The action of DHA is limited to the upper layer of the skin and involves a reaction between DHA and skin proteins and oxygen that produces brown compounds. This process is similar to what occurs when you slice open an apple and the surface of the apple browns when it’s exposed to the oxygen in the air. The development of color takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and the intensity of color are dependent upon the DHA concentration in the product as well as each tanner’s individual skin characteristics. The color developed by the DHA usually lasts 5 to 7 days and begins to fade as the top layer of the skin naturally exfoliates.
It’s best to get your spray tan 2-3 days before your event. This allows your tan to fully develop giving you the best color for your event. We also would like you to do a few rinses before the event, to ensure that you rinsed all the cosmetic bronzer off the skin so nothing transfers to your clothes.
DHA solutions take about 24-hours to fully develop. You will receive the best results if you can avoid bathing until the day after your sunless session. If you must shower, you should wait a minimum of 8-10 hours after the application with our regular solution and around 2-4 hours with our rapid solution. If showering prior to the 24-hour recommendation, a rinse with warm water only, is best. NO SOAP OR BODY WASH. Soap destroys DHA. THE LONGER YOU WAIT TO SHOWER, THE BETTER YOUR RESULTS!
It is important to keep skin moisturized after sunless tanning as dry, flaky skin will slough off faster and color will fade sooner. You basically want to slow down your body’s natural exfoliation process. Sunless tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer that are Paraben and Sulfate free help hydrate skin and maintain even, natural-looking color longer by providing subtle bronzers.
If you are using a spray solution with a cosmetic bronzer, some of the bronze color may rub off on clothing or bed sheets. This is most likely to happen when you get dressed immediately after tanning. To minimize the chance of the tint transferring to clothing, we recommend that you wear loose-fitting, darker clothes after your spray session. Try to refrain from physical exertion that could result in you sweating until you shower and wash off the cosmetic bronzer. The cosmetic tint is water-soluble. Therefore, in most cases, the color will come out of clothing in the wash.
DHA is an ingredient derived from sugar cane and beets, which reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening reaction or tan.
You should exfoliate your skin 24 hours before every sunless session. Using a mild shower gel/exfoliate can be done one day prior to the session. You should allow at least 8 hours between body scrub use and the sunless session. If you have extremely dry skin, or problem areas we recommend exfoliating 24-48 using a Salt Scrub. If using salt scrub, this must be done 24-48 hours prior to the session; otherwise the oils within the salt scrub will affect the sunless results. DO NOT exfoliate your skin the day of your sunless session. NOTE: Skin replaces itself in cycles every week. 25% of your skin exfoliates each week. The tan will cover that 25% so you must remove the extra barrier or skin in order to achieve a glowing tan. Exfoliation allows penetrating deep into the skin to oxidize skin for color.
No. Most people will not see any affect on the color of their hair. People with light blonde, gray or platinum hair may see some discoloration from the cosmetic bronzers initially. This color will wash out with the first shower after your application. We do provide hair nets if you wish to protect your hair.
Typically, a spray tan will last about 5-7 days which will allow you to get sprayed every 5-7 days if you want to maintain your color. However; before coming in for your next session, we recommend that you exfoliate all the old tan off so your skin is clean of any old sunless tan. Having sunless tan on your skin before your session, could result in your spray tan turning out patchy or uneven. We recommend that after every 5 weeks of spray tanning, you allow your skin to rest for 10 days. This allows you to completely loose your tan periodically which eliminates patchiness or uneven areas of wear.
No. The solution that Bronze Beauty uses has a perfectly blend of cosmetic bronzers to give you that “just off the beach” look and transition smoothly into your DHA color that will later develop. The “orange” color, as it is sometimes called, is the result of high pH levels within the skin or using too high of a percentage of DHA on the skin.
pH Balance as it pertains to sunless application refers to the skin’s condition and ability to properly absorb sunless solution during the application process. It is also directly defined as the concentration of the hydrogen molecule, which determines the acid or alkaline level of a product. The pH level of the skin determines, in part, the integrity of the acid mantle. Soaps and harsh detergents alter the pH of skin.
We recommend avoiding these situations for the first 48 hours following your spray tan. Chlorinated pools & spas can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates causing the tan to wear and fade. The ocean is a natural exfoliate to the skin, and being in the ocean water can exfoliate the skin quicker. If you have to go into a pool/spa or ocean, we recommend putting a thick layer of sunscreen and lotion on the skin.
Yes. The solution that Bronze Beauty uses is non-toxic, and utilizes eco-certified natural DHA. However, as you would before using ANY product, on an expectant mother, we recommend you to consult with your personal physician before receiving a DHA tan application. We do require expectant Mothers to wear nose plugs to avoid any extra over-spray entering the body.
Only a few minutes when using the air hose attached to the spray gun. We do this after every session so you are free to dress immediately after your session. You may feel slightly sticky after we dry you and this is normal. That is why we say to wear dark LOOSE fitting clothing so you do not rub off the sunless tan.
It is normal for there to be a slight sticky feel immediately following the session. You should feel completely dry and non-tacky within 30 minutes following the application.
NO! The solution does not protect your skin from UV rays and it is recommended that you use an SPF to protect your skin from the sun.
Yes! The spray tan solution DOES NOT contain an SPF, so you can still get sun from the natural sunlight. It is very important that you wear sunscreen so you do not damage or burn the skin.
We have 2 different types of solutions that we use. Any skin tone can use any of these solutions. They all last the same amount of time and provide you with the most natural looking tan.
Our regular spray tanning solution comes in light, medium or dark, and is left on the skin for a minimum of 8-10 hours before rinsing in the shower.
Our rapid solution allows you to rinse off in as little as 2 hours! The longer you keep this solution on the skin, the darker you will get. For a light color, leave on the skin for 2-3 hours, for a medium color, leave on for 3-4 hours and a dark color, 4-5 hours.

When shaving or waxing before your session, make sure to do so 24 hours before your appointment. DO NOT shave or wax the day of your appointment. Shaving the day of your appointment can lead to dark spots on the legs from the pores opening and effect the overall outcome of the spray tan on the legs making it patchy or uneven. After your session do not shave or wax at least 48-24 hours. Use a brand new razor blade to reduce sloughing off dead skin cells which is where the tan is attached to on your body. If you wax after your session, you will take off the spray tan, so avoid that completely.
If you MUST shower right before you come in for your session, DO NOT use anything on the skin. Just rinse the body with water. Using a bar soap or body wash right before your sunless session can result in an uneven or patchy spray tan. We recommend that you shower 4-6 hours before your session.
NO! When you come in for your appointment, you want your skin clean. That means no lotion, make-up, deodorant, perfume, etc. Having these items on your skin creates a barrier on the skin and you will not get optimal results from the spray tan.
Your manicure and pedicure should be done BEFORE you come in for your spray tan. Getting a pedicure or manicure done after your spray tan, may take some of the spray tan off if the nail tech soaks the skin, puts a lotion or oil on the skin, or exfoliates the skin.
Use deodorant sparingly or if possible do not wear any before your application. Some deodorants may have a reaction to the solution and leave a color on the skin.
You may go nude, topless, wear a bra and underwear or a bathing suit. Whatever you feel the most comfortable doing.
Men – we do require you to wear a sock during your session if you choose to go nude.
After the spray tan you will want to wear loose fitting dark colored clothing. Tight clothing can rub or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows, chest and waist. Do not wear socks as you can a sock line around the ankles.
At this time, we do not. All our appointments take place at Tranquility WellSPA.
