It’s Jeremiah’s Turn – let’s spend some time getting to know our next BBST Sponsored Athlete

Jeremiah has been a client of BBST for many years now. We watched him grow as an amazing athlete at SRU and was there when he placed at the Kumite Classic Bodybuilding show last year. It was after his big win at the Kumite that we decided to partner up and make Jeremiah part of the  BBST Family.

Now, let’s get to know Jeremiah!

Sarah: When did you decide you wanted to compete in shows?

Jeremiah: Freshman year of college when I came to Slippery Rock University I was initially playing ice hockey. When the cost and inconvenience got to be too much to handle I decided it was time to lay that sport to rest. Having always lifted weights through my time as a player I was already interested in fitness. I decided to give the SRU show a shot 2nd semester and never looked back.

Sarah: Who is your role model?

Jeremiah: One of my favorite competitors is Steve Cook. He maintains an aesthetic look but doesn’t let the bodybuilder/meat-head aspect of the sport overpower his life. He maintains a healthy spiritual relationship as well as a fantastic level of physical health and I really respect that.

Sarah: What bodybuilder do you look up to and why?

Jeremiah: [Linked to #2]

Sarah: When was your first show and what did you learn from that show?

Jeremiah: My first show was the Slippery Rock University show in the spring of 2013. After weeks of clueless/hopeful dieting I ended up getting 2nd. However I realized that I had no clue what I was doing and that there was a science to it that I didn’t understand. I learned that I needed to hire a dietitian.

You must have done something right for placing second 🙂

Sarah: When you are prepping for a show – what is a typical day like for you?

Jeremiah: I get out of bed and have a breakfast consisting of eggwhites and oatmeal (in some variation). I go to classes for a few hours and then eat some variation of oatmeal and protein powder as a pre-workout meal. My training is somewhere in the vicinity of 2 hours after which I do cardio on 3-4 days a week, be it treadmill, HIIT training or sprints. I tend to back-load my meals in the day because I am always late getting to bed. So after my workout I consume 3-4 more meals throughout the evening.

That’s a lot of eating and working out! ….do you ever sleep?

Sarah: What is your favorite cheat meal?

Jeremiah: I don’t generally get cheat meals during a prep but refeed days instead where I elevate my carbs for a day each week. However when I am allotted a cheat I say a Chipotle burrito is not just A choice but the ONLY choice.

Nice answer! Can never go wrong with Chipotle!

Sarah: What motivates you to compete?

Jeremiah: I have always been the kind of person who desires to look aesthetic and muscular. While throughout my middle/high school years it was probably more for the purpose of attracting women, I have now found that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is its own reward. I love that competing allows me the chance to step in front of a crowd and present the body that I have worked so hard to build and bring into condition. I strive to be the best version of myself and constantly keep improving. So I view each show as an opportunity to bring an even better self-presentation and I love that idea.

Sarah: What is the best advice you can give to someone who wants to start competing?

Jeremiah: Put everything you have into it. Too often I see people who decide to compete and they don’t know quite what they are doing and they only put partial effort into their training and dieting. I see this as a waste of time. Why put yourself through the pain of a show-prep if you aren’t going to be the best you can possibly be on stage? If you aren’t good at training hire a trainer. If you aren’t sure how to diet properly for it then hire a registered dietitian.

Sarah: What is your favorite part of the body to train?

Jeremiah: I think I would probably have to say chest.

Sarah: What is your favorite exercise?

Jeremiah: Biceps were in contention for my favorite body part to train. So I have to say my favorite specific exercise is Larry Scott dumbbell curls.

Any other comments you would like to make?

I just want to thank Bronze Beauty for taking the time to interview their athletes and showing us a little love. I look forward to a great season of competing with them!
