It’s Jessica’s Turn!! Let’s get to know her this week…..

Hi Everyone! Meet Jessica Lyle, I met her through Jamie and she is a pretty amazing lady! She’s motivated to help people look and feel great! She is also competing this weekend in the OCB Show. GOoooo Jess!!! 😉 BBST will be cheering you on!

Let’s get to know Jess and how she started in the fitness world.

1. When did you decide you wanted to compete in shows?
In 2014, I had decided to set three goals for myself.  1) To finish my bachelors, 2) To run a half marathon, and 3) Compete in my first bikini competition.  A friend of mine has known that I have been wanting to compete in a competition and  put me in contact with a friend who has coached girls.  We can just say it was the perfect timing!

2. Who is your role model?
I have multiple role models.  From my coach Sheri Vucick, to all the friends I have made in the fitness world, as well as your everyday healthy woman.  I feel that you will succeed as long as you believe in yourself and no matter what the goal maybe.  As long as you are happy that’s all that truly matters.

3. What bodybuilder do you look up to and why?
Oh geezzzz… This is pretty tough.  I will definitely have to say I loveeeee Ashley Kaltwasser.  She has a great physique and never lost sight of her goals.  I mean she is the 3peat of the Olympia.  More realistically, I would have to say my coach Sheri Vucick, as she herself is a repeat pro with Fitness America.  Also, she works full-time for Bakery Barn while raising 3 children.  That itself is something that any woman should be able to up to.

4. When was your first show and what did you learn from that show?
My first show was in August 2014 at the OCB City of Champions where I had placed 3rd place in Bikini Open.  I had learned sooooo much from this show such as being confident, do not compare yourself to others, and make sure you know the true reason of why you are competing.

5. When you are prepping for a show – what is a typical day like for you?
Hmmm… pretty hectic!  It really depends on my work schedule.  I would wake up at 4:30am and hit the gym by 5 am to get my morning cardio in.  Get home by 6:15am, shower, make sure I eat my breakfast, and prep the rest of my meals for the day (as in pack my lunches).  After work, I would hit the gym about 6:30pm til about 9pm depending the workout I would need to do for the night.  Get home eat AGAIN 🙂 and then usually shower and head to bed.  Wake up and repeat x6
Sarah: And I thought my days were jammed pack! That is amazing. When I see 4:30 on my clock, I get excited and think “Yes, I still have 1.5 hours of sleep”. One thing I like about competitors, is that they eat A LOT! I like food……be right back as I scarf down a cheeseburger. ONLY KIDDING!

6. What is your favorite cheat meal?
Oh my, for everyone who knows me and follows my pages, will know it is PIZZA!!!! I am obsessed!!!

Sarah: What are your favorite toppings??

7. What motivates you to compete?
My fiance and my friends keep me motivated the most!  It is always great to hear the compliments that come along with working out hard and eating right.  The one compliment is how inspired that others are and how they look up to me for all the hard work I put in.  It really is a joy that when people look up to you, you know that you can also rely on them when needed.  I have a few friends that I can always turn to when I have any doubts or am frustrated with the process.  I really couldn’t be luckier to have the friends I do, they are all such a great bunch!

Sarah: It’s so important to have a significant other support you in something like this. As you saw above, during competition time, Jess is gone from 5am until about 9pm. It’s hard not seeing them, but if they can support you in what you do and understand this is a lifestyle, they are a KEEPER!!

8. What is the best advice you can give to someone who wants to start competing?
I would suggest to look into the sport and what it all entails.  I did not know much when I first started especially how costly it can get.  Also, make sure you are competing because you want to and are ready to.  Competing is not just physical but completely mental as well.

9. What is your favorite part of the body to train?
I love to train legs.  They always have been my strongest body part.

10. What is your favorite exercise?
I absolutely love squatting!! I am starting to become a bigger fan of deadlifting! Get that dunk!! 😉

Sarah: Deadlifting, ok I need someone to explain this to me! haha. It doesn’t sound fun.

11. Any other comments you would like to make?
Never give up on your hopes and dreams!  There are always going to be failures, but with many failures you will eventually succeed.  Never give up! Never!  I know things can get hard, but that is life everything can be hard at times.  Stay positive, stay focused, and remember to be true to yourself always!

Sarah: LOVE this comment. It’s so true! Do not let the bad times get you down! Push yourself because in the end, it will all be worth it!

THANK YOU so much Jess for taking our questions. As I have mentioned before, we have a great group of guys and gals who represent BBST. They love helping others and that’s what is most important.

Now that we are back on the blog train, what topics would you like to see? Is there something about spray tanning that you just don’t understand? ASK away and we will blog it!!

Cheers!

Sarah
